Oppo's Find N5: The Thinnest Foldable Yet with Impressive Durability Features

Oppo’s upcoming Find N5 foldable phone is shaping up to be one of the thinnest on the market. When unfolded, it is nearly as thin as a USB-C port, making it significantly slimmer than previous foldable models. Expected to be rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 for its US release, the Find N5 will push the limits of foldable phone design. Oppo has been teasing the device on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, sharing images and videos that highlight its remarkable thinness. The company revealed that the phone’s thickness is primarily constrained by the size of the charging port, and it’s unlikely to get any thinner.

According to Oppo, the Find N5 is thinner than the current title-holder, the Honor Magic V3, which is 4.35mm thick when unfolded. The Find N5 is believed to be around 4mm thick, making it a serious contender in the foldable phone market. For comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, shown alongside the Find N5 in photos, is 8.25mm thick. The phone’s compactness and design are being positioned as key selling points.

In addition to its slim profile, the Find N5 will also feature impressive water resistance with an IPX9 rating. This means it has been tested to withstand high-pressure water jets at high temperatures, as well as submersion in water (IPX8 rating). However, it lacks dust protection, as indicated by the ‘X’ in its rating. This gives the phone strong durability, although it’s not fully dustproof like some of its competitors.

The Find N5 is set to launch in China next month, and if it follows the path of its predecessor, the Find N3, it could also be rebranded as the OnePlus Open in the West. With its sleek design, slim profile, and durability, the Find N5 could pose strong competition to Samsung and Google’s foldables in the global market.
