In a commanding performance, Sri Lanka thrashed Malaysia by 139 runs in their opening match of the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur. Put in to bat first, Sri Lanka set an imposing target, thanks to explosive knocks from Sanjana Kavindi (30 off 13) and Dahami Sanethma (55 off 52), who guided the team to 52 runs in the powerplay. Despite some early wickets falling, including two in the 17th over, cameos from Hiruni Hansika (28 off 21) and Shashini Gimhani (13 off 7) propelled Sri Lanka to a total of 162/6 in 20 overs.
In response, Malaysia's chase fell apart right from the start. Chamodi Praboda made an immediate impact, picking up two wickets in the second over and reducing the hosts to 2 for 3. The Malaysian batting collapse continued as they quickly tumbled to 14 for 5 and then 20 for 7. With no batter reaching double figures and six players dismissed for ducks, Malaysia was all out for just 23 runs. Praboda ended with remarkable bowling figures of 4-2-5-3.
