The European Commission will conduct a stress test with major social media platforms next week to assess their preparedness in combating disinformation ahead of next month's German election, according to an EU spokesperson on Friday.
Microsoft, TikTok, LinkedIn, Google, Snap, Meta, and X will take part in the test on January 31. The exercise aims to evaluate whether the platforms have sufficient safeguards in place to address risks, as required under the Digital Services Act (DSA).
Spokesperson Thomas Regnier explained during a press briefing, 'The stress test involves examining potential scenarios where the DSA applies and checking with platforms on how they would respond to these situations.'"
