Iranian state media reported on Wednesday that Iranian emergency services successfully rescued 21 crew members from Sri Lanka after their ship encountered heavy storms and capsized in the Gulf of Oman.
The vessel, flagged under the Cook Islands, was transporting oil and sank approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) off the coast of Jask, a southern city in Iran. Mohammad Amin Amani, director of Jask Ports and Maritime Administration, stated that a rescue vessel was swiftly dispatched to the area, ensuring the safe retrieval of all 21 crew members. Among those rescued, five individuals required medical attention, and they were promptly treated by emergency services in Jask.
Fortunately, their physical condition is reported to be satisfactory. The severe storms, which have been ravaging the Strait of Hormuz, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates since Monday, have resulted in devastating floods in Oman, claiming the lives of at least 18 people.
