The United States House of Representatives has approved a significant aid package worth $95 billion, garnering broad bipartisan support. This package aims to provide security assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, despite objections from some Republican hardliners. The legislation is now set to proceed to the Democratic-majority Senate, which had already passed a similar measure over two months ago.
Leaders across the political spectrum, including Democratic President Joe Biden and top Senate Republican Mitch McConnell, had urged Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson to bring the bill up for a vote. With the House's approval, the Senate is expected to vote on the measure next week, after which it will be sent to President Biden for his signature.
The aid package includes approximately $61 billion to address the conflict in Ukraine, with $23 billion allocated to replenish US weapons, stocks, and facilities. Additionally, $26 billion is designated for Israel, including $9 billion for humanitarian needs, while $8 billion is allocated for the Asia Pacific region, including Taiwan.
