The island-wide curfew will be temporarily lifted tomorrow.

The current island-wide curfew will be lifted at 7 a.m. tomorrow and re-imposed at 2 p.m. tomorrow (12 May).

It will be in effect until 6 a.m. on Friday (13 May), according to the President's Media Division.

As a result, no one is permitted to remain on a public road, railroad, public park, public playground, or any other public area or beaches during the curfew period unless they have a written permit issued by a specific authorizing officer.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Police have stated that the curfew will be strictly enforced, particularly tonight, and have urged the general public to remain at home as much as possible.

The police media division also stated that all police stations have been instructed to use maximum force to prevent unruly mobs or violent groups from searching vehicles, as well as incidents of damaging public or private property, looting, and assault.

According to the statement, police officers are also instructed to open fire when necessary to prevent such incidents.

Curfew was declared in Sri Lanka at 7 p.m. on Monday (May 09), in accordance with Section 16 of the Public Security Ordinance, as a nationwide public outcry erupted following an assault on peaceful protesters by a mob of government supporters at the Galle Face Green protest site and near the Temple Trees.

Originally scheduled to last until Tuesday morning (May 10), the curfew was first extended until this morning (May 11). However, it was extended until Thursday morning because violent incidents continue to be reported from across the country.
