Today's rainfall totaled more than 100mm in many areas.



The current showery weather is expected to continue due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Most of the island will experience showers or thundershowers.

As a result, heavy rains of more than 100mm are expected in parts of the Northern, North-central, North-western, Eastern, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces. Showers of up to 75 mm are expected in some areas elsewhere as well.

Wind speeds in the Southern province can reach 40-45 kph at times.

The general public is advised to take appropriate precautions to reduce damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.


Seashores:

Due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, wind speeds in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Hambantota via Matara can reach 40-50 kph at times. It is recommended that the fishing and naval communities remain vigilant in this regard.


Showers or thundershowers are possible in the sea areas around the island at times. Heavy rain is expected in some areas of the island's northern, north-eastern, eastern, western, and south-western seas.


Winds will be south-westerly or variable in direction, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 kilometers per hour. Wind speeds in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Hambantota via Matara can reach 40-50 kph at times.


The seas off the coast from Puttalam to Pottuvil, passing through Colombo, Galle, Matara, and Hambantota, will be rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will be quite rough.


During thundershowers, strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected.
