Will the duration of the power outage be extended further?

According to the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers' Union (CEBEU), the duration of power outages will have to be extended in the coming days because the remaining stocks of fuel required for power generation activities are now running low.

Anil Ranjith Induwara, the chairperson of the CEBEU, stated at a media briefing that the fuel stocks at the Barge Mounted Power Plant are only sufficient for three days.

Speaking further on the subject, Mr. Induwara stated that the CEB is capable of supplying electricity if the necessary amount of fuel is provided. He then urged the government and relevant authorities, including the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, to expedite fuel supply measures.

In terms of hydropower generation, the CEBEU chairman stated that, despite the fact that reservoir water levels have dropped dramatically, the CEB is capable of supplying 300 MW during the day and 700 MW at night.

In response to a media question, he stated that if fuel stocks are not replenished and adequate rainfall is not received, people will be affected by power outages during the upcoming festive season.
