Four and a half-hour power cuts tomorrow


The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has supported the solicitation made by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for rotational burden shedding tomorrow (Feb. 23), because of the deficiency of fuel supplies.


PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said that power trims of 04 hours and 40 minutes will be forced in the areas referenced under bunches A, B, and C in the power interference plan (see plan underneath).


In the meantime power cuts of 04 hours and 30 minutes will be forced in different regions, he said.


The PUCSL administrator said that the power cuts of 4 hours and 40 minutes will be forced between 8.30 a.m. furthermore 10.30 p.m. in bunches A, B, and C while it will be isolated as 02 hours toward the beginning of the day and 02 hours 40 minutes in the evening.


In the meantime in different gatherings, the power cuts of 04 hours and 30 minutes will be forced between 8.30 a.m. also 9.30 p.m. while it will be parted as 02 hours toward the beginning of the day and 02 and a half hours in the evening.


The PUCSL said that around 4,000 metric huge loads of fuel are expected every day to create power in the nation and that today (February 22) there had been a deficiency of around 2,000 metric huge loads of fuel.


Accordingly, power plants with an absolute power age limit of 550MW were closed down, it said.


The power controller added that the upcoming fuel necessary to produce power is 4,000 metric tons, but just 1,000 metric tons have been provided. Likewise, the fuel deficiency for later is 3,000 metric tons, it said.


Assuming there is such a lack, 750MW of force will be removed from the public network, the PUCSL said.
