The UK Supreme Court has blocked a $4.3 billion class action lawsuit against Google.

The verdict in the data privacy lawsuit destabilizes a slew of similar suits pending against other corporations, including Facebook and TikTok.

The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom has halted a planned 3.2 billion pound ($4.3 billion) British class action against Google over charges that the internet giant illegally tracked the personal information of millions of iPhone users.

On Wednesday, Britain's top justices unanimously granted Google an appeal against the country's first such data privacy case, upsetting a slew of similar suits against other businesses, including Facebook and TikTok.

The landmark lawsuit, initiated by Richard Lloyd, a consumer rights activist and former director of Which? magazine, aimed to broaden Britain's class action process to include compensation claims for data misuse - even if no evident financial loss or hardship exists.

Google stated that the accusation was based on incidents that occurred a decade ago and were addressed at the time.

"People want to know that they are safe and secure online, which is why we've spent years focusing on building products and infrastructure that respect and preserve people's privacy," said a Google spokeswoman.

Lloyd claimed that Google secretly stole the personal information of over five million Apple iPhone customers between 2011 and 2012 by circumventing default privacy settings on the Safari browser to track internet surfing history.

According to Lloyd, Google exploited this to sell a tailored advertising business, and the corporation made $80 billion from advertising alone in 2016.
