The National Weather Service has issued a severe rain warning for areas receiving more than 150 millimeters of rain.


The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning that heavy rains of more than 150 mm are possible in several areas of Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.


Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, and Northern provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, according to the weather service, which has issued a 'Red' warning for heavy rain.


"Some areas in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya district, can experience very heavy showers over 150 mm." During the next 24 hours, heavy showers of up to 100 mm are expected in various areas of the North-western and Northern provinces, as well as Matale, Galle, and Matara districts."


During thundershowers, the general public is cordially asked to take appropriate precautions to reduce harm caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning.


Due to the effect of the prevailing wind convergence zone in the vicinity of the island, showery conditions on land and windy conditions on the sea can be expected for the 07th, 08th, and 09th November, according to the department.
