Heavy rains of more than 150 mm have been forecast for three provinces.

The low-pressure area in the south-east Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify further into a depression over the following 36 hours, according to the Department of Meteorology.

The department stated in its meteorological advisory released this evening (Nov. 09) that it is predicted to move west-northwestward towards North Tamil Nadu, closer to Sri Lanka's north coast.

As a result, rainfall totals of more than 150 mm are expected in sections of the Northern, North-western, and North-central provinces.

Meanwhile, severe rains of up to 100 mm are forecast for parts of Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts, over the next 24 hours.
