Up to 110 million Moderna COVID vaccinations will be purchased by the African Union.

To facilitate the transaction, an agreement reached in part by the White House will withhold delivery of some doses meant for the United States.



According to the Reuters news agency, the African Union (AU) plans to buy up to 110 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna Inc, in a deal arranged in part by the White House, which will withhold delivery of certain doses destined for the United States to assist the deal.


The doses for the African Union will be supplied over the next several months, with 15 million arriving before the end of the year, 35 million in the first quarter of 2022, and up to 60 million in the second quarter.
