Today's committee decision on reopening schools, as well as immunizations for schoolchildren

The committee decision on when to begin the COVID-19 vaccination rollout for school students, as well as which grades to open first, will be discussed today, according to Health Minister Kehaliya Rambukwella.

He stated that conversations would take place with the goal of reopening schools.

As a result, the choice will be made to launch the COVID immunization campaign from pre-school to grade six or from grade 12 to 13.

"Following testing conducted by John Houston University in the United Kingdom, there is an opinion that some kind of difficulties could occur for youngsters aged 12 to 15 against the COVID vaccine," Minister Rambukwella stated.

He stated that there is a problem with the re-opening of schools as well as the vaccination rollout. However, after considering all factors, we will make the best option, he stated.

Earlier, State Minister for Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Channa Jayasumana stated that the committee was created and will be led by the Director General of Health Services after a lengthy conversation with health officials.
