The first foreign commercial flight since the Taliban's return lands in Kabul.

A Pakistan International Airlines flight from Islamabad with only a few passengers lands at Kabul International Airport.

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane carrying a few passengers has landed at Kabul airport, making it the first international commercial flight to land in Afghanistan since the Taliban retook power last month.

“There was hardly anyone on the plane, perhaps 10 individuals... maybe more personnel than passengers,” said an AFP correspondent on board the flight from Islamabad on Monday.

It was unclear whether the PIA flight was a routine commercial flight or a special commercial charter.

A PIA spokesperson said over the weekend that the airline was eager to resume regular commercial flights, but that it was too early to determine how frequently flights between the two cities will operate.

“This is a beautiful moment for me after a long period since the change of establishment in Kabul,” PIA's head of operations, Jawad Zafar, told AFP on Monday.
