Occupants in Ida-battered southeastern Louisiana prepare for quite a long time without power

LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. — Bethanie Podany has burned through the vast majority of the previous week packed into her sister's home in Houma, La., with her better half, two little youngsters and in excess of twelve different family members.

Tropical storm Ida made outcasts of them when it pummeled into the Gulf Coast last week and took out power for a huge number of individuals in the locale. For Podany, attempting to keep her Raceland, La., house controlled by a generator appeared to be an act of futility since fuel was hard to find.

Yet, her sister had an entire house generator that worked on flammable gas, and she opened her entryways. Podany snatched what she could out of the cooler — a pack of shrimp and 200 ounces of bosom milk she'd siphoned over the previous year — and headed over.

Five families were cooped up in the five-room property Saturday, trusting that the power will return as recuperation groups start fixing the destroyed foundation.
