COVID-19: SL isn't out of the woods yet, says SLMA

Despite talks about reopening the country and a gradual decrease in the number of COVID-19 infections and deaths, the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) stressed that the country is still in the pandemic's red zone.

According to SLMA President Dr. Padma Gunaratne, the country is still in danger.

“We are currently at a crossroads where the third wave is slowing. However, there is always the possibility of another wave arising. As a result, it is critical for people to ensure that health guidelines are strictly followed,” she stated.

“What is critical here is to reduce the PCR Positivity Rate if we are to see a true drop in cases and deaths,” SLMA President emphasized.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath urged people, particularly youth, to get their COVID-19 vaccines without hesitation.

“We also urge people not to be misled by false reports circulating on social media and instead to rely on statements conveyed by health authorities,” he added.
